Dr. Schallert holds a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from Harding University, two master of music degrees from the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» in orchestral conducting and horn performance, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³». He has been a part of the Artistic Staff for the GPAC Youth Symphony Orchestra Program since 2009 and currently serves as the Artistic Director and Conductor of Youth Symphony. Dr. Schallert taught for 10 years in middle and high schools in Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³», TN, where he guided students to numerous awards, including top placements in all-region, all-state, and all-national youth orchestras and jazz bands. In addition to his current work with the GPAC Youth Symphony, Dr. Schallert has taught conducting, music education, research and statistics, and orchestra courses at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» and Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» College.
As a PhD candidate, Dr. Schallert received the Graduate Assistant Meritorious Teaching Award from the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» for instructing courses in rehearsal techniques, instrumental methods, conducting, and graduate courses in descriptive and experimental research in music and the Graduate Student Outstanding Research award from the College of Communications and Fine Arts at the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» for his continuing research into the biomechanics of conducting. He also presented new research at regional, state, and national conventions and currently serves as the post doctoral research fellow for the University of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™ Institute for Arts and Health within the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
